Why choose an Aussiedoodle over any other doodle ?

There are so many other doodles out there to choose from, so how does a person choose? We are long past the days of just Labradoodles and Goldendoodles.. Breeding Aussiedoodles is a whole new ball game. Aussiedoodles have the COVETED merle puppies that everyone wants - especially those with blue eyes. These are indeed gorgeous dogs, but because Aussiedoodle breeders are dealing with one core dog that carries the merle gene (the Australian Shepherd), a breeder must be very careful when choosing mating pairs as one dog may appear merle to you and the other clearly does not. As a breeder you must avoid breeding two merle dogs together and producing a double merle with multiple health problems. This is something other doodle breeders do not have to be concerned about, and therefore breeding other doodles does not require as much due diligence.

Genes work in mysterious ways, especially the merle gene. Because we breed together two dogs, one of which carries the merle gene (the Australian Shepherd) we get a myriad of colors that other doodle crosses simply can not replicate. Blue and red merle puppies are the puppies that everyone wants. Gene testing is crucial in this arena as many dogs, especially those that are red, can hide the merle gene. Phenotypically they do not express merle, but genotypically they are as merle as the beautiful merle mate you have found for her. Unfortunately there are too many Aussiedoodle breeders out there that do not test and mistakenly cross two merle puppies together, resulting n having double merle puppies- and possibly a blind and deaf dog. What clearly sets us apart from every other doodle can not be dealt with lightly. You must choose your breeder wisely.

So what are the characteristic differences you will see when looking for your perfect “doodle”? There are a lot of similarities in some ways as all of the crosses share 50% or more of there genetic makeup with the same dog - the Poodle. The poodle is known to be he second most intelligent canine there is. Aussiedoodles have acquired the name of Einstein dogs as they are the smartest doodle cross there is. They are remarkably intelligent, hard working, and have a longer attention span than other crosses, making them very easy to train. Australian Shepherds were bred specifically as a ranch hand to herd. They can run faster than any dog you have every seen and can turn on a dime making them great agility dogs. Aussiedoodles have inherited this trait and for those of you who like to walk, hike or even run, they make great companions. Because Australian Shepherds and the poodle are both working dogs they make very loyal companions and are very protective of their family. They work for you. They will alert to strangers, but are also very social and playful dogs, especially if properly socialized as a puppy.

Labradors and Golden retrievers were bred for hunting and have a very high prey drive. Many Aussiedoodle owners say they can walk their dogs off leash as they will stay right by their sides and do not exhibit the same prey drive as there other doodle friends. Now if they come across a herd of sheep, well………..they might be off to the races! Most Aussiedoodles are always looking to you for what you want them to do next. Work is what they enjoy and what they live for. ! Because of this herding instinct they can read body language and gestures, even emotions very well. They have to be able to do this in order to herd as well as they do. Being able to read body language and emotions so well also lends them well to emotional support dogs as well as service dogs. They have even become diabetic alert dogs. They are the eternal lag dog - no matter the size, they all think they weigh 10 lbs! They love their people and will always be your loyal and faithful companion to the end.

Red Tuxedo Merle with heterochromia eyes

Red is the rarest color to get in Aussiedoodles, they are absolutely gorgeous dogs. There are varying shades of red, some are solids, parti with the familiar Tuxedo white chest and blaze, and some are merles displaying various shades of reds to brown in their coats. Many of the merles will have blue eyes, and many will have beautiful deep brown soulful eyes

Aussiedoodles come in many sizes from a small toy up to the larger standard size which are bred to standard Poodles. There is a size for everyone’s taste………….and more than enought colors to choose from. Color is what really sets them apart from every other doodle there is. No other cross can come close. They have relatively few health concerns and maintain a high hybrid vigor. They live from 12 -15 years as your close companion. Add up all of the plusses and there is clearly only one choice!! AN AUSSIEDOODLE!
